At a cross road, had valve replacement 6 years ago, now looking at a bulge in my ascending aorta, currently at 4.8 cm, after reading several blogs the recommendation is repair at 5.0 - 5.5, looking for anyone that may have experienced something similar, I know I have to have the surgery at some point. Just don't know if I should monitor it for a while.

DONALD LEE Thanks I'm talking with them now I'm just looking for someone with a real life experience, how did the surgery go? how was there recovery? I knew what to expect with the valve, because I was talking with people that had experienced it prior to my surgery, of course mine was a little different but just having that conversation was so helpful leading up to surgery.

My ascending aneurysm was 4.8 cm, and my valve was still functioning well. But I had both done at the same time on the advice of my surgeon.. I am a petite 5'5 103 lbs, so that 4.8 was considered large according to my small body size. If you are a bigger guy, waiting till 5-5.5 cm seems reasonable. Catie B had a chart showing the relative size of the patient to the size of the aneurysm in her journal. Might be interesting for you to read.

Kathy Blank My dilated ascending aorta was discovered during my MV Repair- It was 4.0 and 6 mos later was 4.1. I am due for my next MRI this month. I am 5’3 and 128 lbs- petite but not as petite as Marie- but have also heard that the size of the aorta is relative to your body size as well. I asked a surgeon if the aneurism is related to my mitral valve issue and she said that it might be an issue with the collagen ( I had ruptured cords on the posterior leaflet that caused my MV prolapse. Keep us posted on your research!
