I have just had surgery for an aortic aneurysm and I have a bicuspid valve. Does this mean I have a connective tissue disorder? Do I need to check for this ? How do I check for this?

Marie Myers I, too, had a bicuspid AV and ascending aortic aneurysm. My surgery was in March and I am doing well. I did not have any work up for connective tissue disorder, and have experienced no other symptoms or signs. I did learn, though, that BAV patients have a 10% increased chance of intracranial aneurysms, but that also means that 90% of us at at no increased risk. Your kids should be checked for the bicuspid AV, as should your brothers and sisters.

Lilly Black I was diagnosed with connective tissue disorder. BAV, aneurysm, heart valve replacement were my conditions. Yes get the kids checked! I got my son checked and he's fine....no BAV. I take after my dad and his family who had abdominal aneurysm and my aunt had brain aneurysm and stroke. My other aunt died suddenly from a heart condition possibly a dissection. Good luck!

Shannon Gray Very valid question...most certainly get your children checked. I have Turner Syndrome, which they are beginning to find falls under connective tissue disorder. Your cardiologist should be able to evaluate and confirm if there is a connective tissue disorder... just because you have a bivalve and aneurysm, it does not mean you automatically have a connective tissue problem.
