I have severe mitral valve prolapse. I was scheduled to have a valve replacement last month but I experienced a brain bleed a week before the surgery. The bleed required emergency surgery to repair. I have now been told that the valve surgery is high risk because of possible recurrence of the brain bleed. Has anyone had this experience and how did your medical team handle it. The neurosurgeon is concerned about the heavy blood thinners used during surgery and continued use afterward. I was planning on getting a bioprosthetic valve.
