Klara Čičić  This question rises often. The timing of the surgery isn't easy to establish. I had dilated left atrium, as well as mildly dilated LV, moderate to severe mitral regurgitation AND paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Those fibrillations were the straw.... but still, in my case, not all cardiologists were pro intervention (I asked for second and third opinion). I guess decision was mainly mine in the end based on expert's opinions, lot of reading (latest guidelines), education... Waiting didn't make sense since things won't get better, only worse. And having a successful repair (in a skilled surgeon's hands) as an option makes early intervention more favourable. Some heart warriors experienced similar situation where you have to be your own advocate in the end.

J Alexander Lassally  I am in the same boat now. Doing beta blockers as I buy time. I'm actively researching hospital coast to coast. There is huge heterogeneity in what is offered - Good luck, happy to compare notes
