Hi all - I am new to this site and looking feedback/advice on my situation.
Currently scheduled for BAV surgery at both Northwestern & Cleveland Clinic.
I just found out that my Aortic root is 4.3cm up from 3.9cm 3 years ago. My initial thought was I was for sure going to Cleveland Clinic if there were any issues with the root. Now, I am having second thoughts as I live in Chicago.
This is a tough spot as root surgery is not recommended until 4.6-4.7cm but studies do show that it tends to grow at .1cm per year.
Should I have the Bentall procedue over just repairing the valve to avoid another potential surgery?

Kimberly Biddick If you already have an aneurysm, I would hope that the surgeon would go ahead and repair that while they're in there as well. Is the 4.6-4.7cm the measurement the surgeons gave you based on your body size, etc? Did they say they would leave the aneurysm??? If I were you, and I was just a few weeks ago :) , I would insist that they repair the aneurysm as well so that you don't have that hanging over your shoulder. Why have two OHS when you can have one. I had OHS and valve repair 7 weeks ago today and my aneurysm measured 4.3cm. According to my surgeon when he spoke to my family and then me later on "that aneurysm HAD to go, it was too big in comparison to body size". I wish you the best of luck!!!!! Please keep us all posted :)
