I am worried I keep thinking about going back to the cardiologist in September for my cat scan results. He wants to check it for an enlarged Aortic Root. I also have a mild to moderate leaky valve. I am alone and I just wish I had help. Maybe I am 78 years old and I am worried. Sorry to be negative I am just feeling down. I am so glad I found this site I feel it will help.

Klara Čičić Dear Audrey, I am sorry you feel this way. Your feelings are normal...at some point we all felt (and still feel) scared. My surgery is approaching and I can say I felt worse in those early days when I found out I needed surgery...so I understand your fear. But with good education and with time acceptance and courage will come. This wonderful community is here to listen and be a support to you and hopefully it will make you feel better 😊

Marie Myers Is there any chance friends, coworkers, neighbors , or church family can lend a hand? I believe most people are willing and able to lend a hand , but you have to ask. It is not a bad thing to ask for help when you need it. I hope you can find some people to help so you won’t feel alone. Please keep us posted!

Richard Munson It looks from your post that you are in florida. Land of people our age. There are a couple of folks on this site in florida, and no doubt more that could provide some guidance and direction but the bottom line is that you are the main person in charge of your health. Its normal to be nervous of course. Scared even. We all were. I was 78 , now 80 when i had my surgery. I was not alone but in some ways felt alone. My heart, my life, and i found the correct cardiologist and surgeon in boston by being persistent. I know everyone does not have my drive but the only alternative is to roll over and do nothing, and get worse. My wife and kids were supportive but it was up to me in the end. I only found this site after my surgery. I know a great guy i joke with on this site is howard powders i believe is in florida and more importantly he is our age but appears very knowledgeable and might provide some guidance for you. Assume he will read this. But, the bottom line is on you. I always say i have family that loves me but i love me the most. Hope i helped.

If your cardiologist says it needs fixing, there are minimally invasive catheter heart repair techniques done through the groin by interventional cardiologists for folks who are too frail for open heart surgery. Ask about that please!! Quicker recovery! Not nearly as scary!🙂🙂🙂
