About Me (In My Own Words)
At age 60 I was diagnosed with a-fib. Next I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation. Many tests, many different drugs, and 5 years later I was told that open heart surgery was needed. I was not comfortable with the lack of communication between Doctors, staff, and departments. I had the surgery scheduled and the surgeons office called and cancelled three days before my surgery date. I was rescheduled for 10 days later. I said enough is enough. I looked online and looked to the Cleveland Clinic where I watched Dr. Gillinov's video. I knew right then that he was the surgeon I needed and Cleveland Clinic was the hospital for me. I contacted his office and was very comfortable with his staff, they helped me. Next thing I know my wife and I are on our way to Cleveland Clinic. Everyone at Cleveland Clinic was great, and all on the same page, pre surgery and surgery went great, recovery went great. I am now 90 days out from surgery and am going to cardiac rehab 3 days a week, and walk and exercise at home. I have lost 20 pounds from my pre surgery weight. I follow the diet that Cleveland Clinic recommended for me. I feel much much better than I have in years. Open heart surgery has made my life better.
