About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm 52 years old and was diagnosed with mild-moderate aortic stenosis 3 years ago. In the summer of 2011 it was determined I had a bicuspid aortic valve. Surgery was scheduled for January 2012, but due to a sudden escalation to severe stenosis, the surgery was performed in December 2011. During the surgery at the University of Michigan Hospital the surgeon discovered the valve was actually unicuspid and extremely calcified. Recovery has had a few complications but overall better than I anticipated!
