I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis in 1983 (was 42) and had surgery 10yrs. later. I was given a St. Jude mechanical valve and have been on Coumadin for 26+ yrs. now. I have home testing for my INR which has been such a relief after all the blood draws. But I'm 78 now and the valve is getting calcified and I have aortic stenosis again. It looks like another operation in the not too distant future. My next echocardiogram is in Nov.. I've also recently noticed I don't hear the ticking sound so much, very little actually, so that's concerning. The last time I was home for 6 weeks and went back to work, now I'm retired and hope I'll be sent to cardiac rehab for a bit afterwards. I'm in the process of making sure all my legal matters are in order.
