About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello, my name is Sheila and I was born with a faulty mitral valve that now needs surgical attention. I have severe blood regurgitation. I am scheduled on November 5/09 to have it replaced (or repaired if my surgeon is able to work with the remaining leaflets). I had an atrial septal defect repaired with a teflon patch 26 yrs ago. Also, I have Scleroderma CREST syndrome (an auto-immune disease). I am concerned about the potential for an auto-immune response to the surgery (i.e. with the heart-lung machine, recovery from the surgery). I'm wondering if anyone out there has any information/experience about this situation and how they dealt with it. I have been praying about the while situation and for the most part I am feeling quite at ease about the surgery and recovery (a little nervous still about going under the knife again). God is good and I feel confident in his plan for me and my life. Thanks.
Update: Since I've had a bad cold, my valve surgery has been postponed until November 23, 2009.
