About Me (In My Own Words)
I survived an emergency ascending aortic dissection. I was alone traveling in Ireland, called 999 and woke up with a new St. Jude mechanical aortic valve. I was asymptomatic until the incident. I remained in Ireland three additional weeks following surgery and when I arrived home I was admitted to Virginia Mason Hospital with infections. They removed three of the wires and sewed me back up. We followed up with six weeks of home infusion antibiotics (rifampin and cezafolin).
