About Me (In My Own Words)
Found out in 2009 I had a BAV with AA. Uncle of mine got a mechanical valve and his doctor mentioned it could be a genetically disorder running in the family.
Did a check-up assuming I would not be affected because of my healthy lifestyle (have been in the military in my mid-twenties (commando's) and always have been in a reasonable shape after those years.
In 2013 I got hooked by a sport called Survival Run and was training for my first run in January 2014. My wife was ok with me running in competition but pleaded I needed a full checkup before the run... I didn't make the run, the BAV and aneurism had gotten worse and they needed more tests. Eventually my cardio gave it 6 months to check if the condition aggravated and it did....
So in Otober 28th I got my replacement of the Aortic valve and the aneurism was replaced with a Dacron tube.
I have chosen for a tissue valve (cow). Sorin Mitronflow (23).
Working again and feeling ok most of the time. Had a lot of chest-pain after surgery and even now after exercise sometimes. Training for my first run after surgery but I found out I need to take time to heal...Got some stupid injuries by pushing myself to hard to get back in shape...
I think I'm a lucky joker by finding out early. But I hope my tissue valve holds on for more than 10 years....
(By the way, I can hear my heart thumping every night lying in bed. It's not as loud as a mechanical valve, but it sure is louder than a normal valve....)
