About Me (In My Own Words)
I was 50 years old when I had the AAA open surgery, combined with aortic valve replacement (w/ a porcine valve) and it was a very difficult recovery... too many complications lead to a second open the following month which landed me in ICU for several days and hospitalization with lung and abdominal drains for 11 more days.
What's next? I'm now 13 years post, and due to the use of a porcine valve (not permanent/mechanical) will need replacing. I am beginning palpations again and congestion after meals. I am closely monitored for the same symptoms of my original failing aortic valve and am very much afraid about my future procedure.
