About Me (In My Own Words)
My name is Laura and I am 34 years old. I was officially diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse when I was 20 after passing out while working a morning shift at Starbucks. I've always had regurgitation associated with my MVP, and have been going in for echo's off and on throughout the past 14 years. After experiencing dizzy spells and exhaustion about a year ago, I started seeing a new cardiologist to have my first stress echo done. The regurgitation was rated as moderate, but there were no other troubling signs. My doctor suggested I come in for a regular echo in a year, which brings us to present day.
I went in for the echo about two weeks ago and had an appt. with my doctor to discuss the result three days ago. I went into the appt. feeling pretty confident that the results would show no change, but that is NOT what happened. The regurgitation is now rated as moderate/severe and the left atrium as started to enlarge. The ejection fraction rate has also decreased. My doctor stated that the question is no long if I will need surgery, but when!
