About Me (In My Own Words)
Doctors had monitored a murmur for several years, and started when I lived and worked at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. When I moved back to my home state of California, my doctor here kept track of the murmur each time I visited him. During a visit in 2017 he told me it was sounding different and wanted me to see a cardiologist.
The cardiologist, D. Gregory Hopkins, checked me and did multiple tests from which the diagnosis was made that I had Stenosis of a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. The doctor connected me with a local surgeon, Keith Korver, who was chosen to do the surgery in January of 2018.
I had a SAVR on January 6, and was hospitalized for 6 days post-surgery. My recovery was fairly easy, as these things go and went through physical therapy.
I will soon celebrate an anniversary myself and as usual will have a follow up with my cardiologist.
