About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve in my 30s and had a surgery 11 years ago at 40 to replace the valve with a bioprosthetic valve with hopes that next replacement may be a TAVR. Recent echo results are showing moderate stenosis and cardiologist is recommending surgery within a year with a mechanical valve. I am 51 now. He performs TAVR regularly but said I was too young for TAVR. I had thought TAVR was now being done in younger patients so I am rejoining this group (learned a lot here 11 years ago) to learn more.
