About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with mitral regurgitation and atrial fib. The cardiologist recommended surgery in the next 2-3 months. The two surgeons were recommended and I am looking for feedback about these two people. Schaff is from the Mayo Clinic and Gillanov is from the Cleveland Clinic.
I had my surgery on September 2 for a mitral valve repair, Maze technique and atrial clip at the Cleveland Clinic. The surgery went well but I did have a complication from a GI bleed 36 hours after the surgery. It was never explained after complete GI Testing. I am 7 weeks out from surgery, feeling stronger and attending cardiac rehab. Rehab makes a big difference because it gives me a regular workout program that is monitored. I am building stamina and strength. I am walking 4 miles on the days that I do not do rehab. My a fib is gone which was the original problem that brought attention to my mitral valve. My incision is healing well from the sternotomy. I am continuing to take Diltiazem and look forward to stronger days.

I am wondering how people feel after mitral valve repair and maze technique 2 1/2 years out? I an 74 years old and physically fit and active. Though age is a factor and an ablation for an atrial flutter 07/2022, I am feeling good but not as strong. Anyone having similar concerns?
