About Me (In My Own Words)
I was originally diagnosed with Mild Aortic Stenosis in 2017 based on my GPs suggestion that at 68 yrs old with a life long heart murmur which is often a predictor of aortic stenosis in later life. The echo cardiogram verified this had happened. With follow up echo cardiograms each year I have now progressed and classified as severe or critically severe stenosis and replacement is advised. The Aortic Valve area is now at 0.8 cm2 and the velocity # is above 400m, both of which indicate the "critical" subcategory of Severe Aortic Stenosis. I've had both a CT scan and a catheter angiogram in the last month in preparation for the AV replacement procedure and I am a good candidate for the TAVR procedure at my age of 72.
What is so strange for me is that I am asymptomatic to this condition having no shortness of breath or hard times walking up stairs. I'm still an active bicycle rider. Nevertheless I understand that at my state, it is best to do the surgery. I would be interested in hearing from patients that have little or no symptoms of their condition and the thoughts they are having and the feedback from their cardiologists.
