About Me (In My Own Words)
Receiving news that you need mitral valve repair can be overwhelming and test your emotions. The constant reminder is daunting and really puts a damper on your everyday life.
I was diagnosed with mild mitral regurgitation in my early 20's, and was doing well until a bout of sepsis 4 years ago caused a severe leak. I started experiencing more frequent palpitations (skipped beats, flutters and sometimes a rapid heart beat). I also had a very loud murmur and could feel my heart working overtime.
I am very thankful that my cardiologist at Providence St. Jude referred me to Dr. Chikwe at Cedars Sinai. I felt very confident that I was in the best hands after our consultation. She suggested I was a good candidate for minimally invasive robotic repair. Doctor Chikwe and her team at Cedars Sinai were fantastic!
I'm 3 weeks post-op and all the doctors/nurses/physical therapists say I'm recovering extremely well. I feel a big sense of relief now. Thank you Dr. Chikwe, Vivian Burkhart and the entire staff at Cedars Sinai.
