About Me (In My Own Words)
I have a bicuspid aortic valve that wasn't discovered until about 2 years ago. I'm 67 now. My stenosis has gotten into the severe stage so will be having surgery soon - still in the decision process (type of valve, type of procedure).
I went back and forth between mechanical and tissue value and open heart vs. TAVR. Even though I'll have to have another procedure in 10 or so years, I went with tissue using TAVR procedure. I didn't want to have be on blood thinners. I ended up also having to have a pacemaker implanted. Amazing how small the pacemaker is (size of a vitamin) and it's implanted inside my heart so no wires and no "lump" in my chest. I came home the day after my surgery and still a bit tired, but otherwise doing well.
Fantastic doctors, PAs, and nurses at the Brigham in Boston.
