About Me (In My Own Words)
Since a young child I've had a bicuspid aortic valve and heart murmur either as a birth defect or as a result of rheumatic fever.
On June 12, 2012 I went to my cardiologist, Dr. Germanwalla, for my yearly heart check up and echo. At that time he told me I have aortic stenosis and that I was in the critical stage and we would need to replace the valve with a metal valve. He made a follow up appointment in ninety days for another echo and doctor visit. So on September 11, 2012 David (my husband)and I went for the most thorough echo and then went in to see the doctor.
During the three months since the original diagnosis, we have gone for a second opinion, bought and read the Heart Valve Surgery book, and as I was the main caregiver for my Mother,we've had to get her situated.
David and I had made up a list of questions for the doctor, so during this visit, we got those questions answered. We decided unanimously that it's time to get this show on the road. I'm scheduled for two separate CTA's next week (chest & abdomen), then a cardiac cath on the 27th. Then we will meet with the surgeon to set the date for the actual surgery.
