About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed over 30 years ago with Mitral Valve Prolapse, never an issue always asymptomatic and monitored. While I'm not 100 % sure I think that there has been some regurgitation for some time, however; asymptomatic. Until now. I Came in through to ER last Sunday morning (8/6/2017) after two nights of no sleep, shortness of breath, and aches pains and exhaustion. ER sonogram showed some serious regurgitation and my murmur, which I had been told had been pretty quiet over the last few years, was loud and pronounced. They also took chest x-ray and CT scan and those results were indicative of multi-focal pneumonia. This was my official ER diagnosis (even though i was not sick, had no fever, and had no elevated white blood cell count to indicate infection). I was admitted with orders for a complete cardiac echo workup to take place the next day. Once I had that done (echo, TEE, etc) it was determined that my valve had now torn and I have a flailing leaflet with significant to serious regurgitation. Long story short, they are continuing to treat for pneumonia with antibiotics and giving me lasix to get the fluid off my lungs so I can breath and my surgery for the valve is scheduled for Tuesday (8/15/2017). Awaiting final pre-surgical consult and confirmation with surgeon, but as of now they are 95% confidant that they can repair my own valve. So wish me luck.
