About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 46 year old wife and mom who enjoys adventure; Skiing, hiking, traveling, boating, always trying to keep up with my husband and teenage kids . I have known about my bicuspid aortic valve and aortic aneurism since I was a teenager and my pediatrician heard a murmur but had been symptom free and enjoyed all activities with no restrictions. I've been closely monitoring my stenosis for the past 15 years. I've known I would eventually need a valve replacement. I started noticing shortness of brand lightheadedness which started the conversation about valve replacement sooner than later. The decision about which choice of valve has been quite overwhelming. After weeks of research and discussion with doctors and my family, I decided to go forward with the mechanical valve. I know the drawbacks of taking the blood thinners for life but for me, I hope this will be the only procedure I need. I feel good about this choice and am ready to begin feeling like a new person!
