About Me (In My Own Words)
I was actually diagnosed with cardiomyopathy on January of 2015. At that time my ejection fraction was on the low end at 30-35%. I was put on meds and by June of 2015 my ejection fraction increased to 55%. From June to December I was doing and feeling well, and thought all had gone back to "normal" until I was woken up one night with heart palpitations. Went to see my cardiologist and was diagnosed with AFib. I was put on arrythmia medication, but it had the opposite affect, and instead of helping it made it worse. A few weeks later I was having a hard time catching my breath and walking. In February of this I was rushed to the ER because I felt congested and very short of breath. The attending physician decided to hospitalize me and run some tests to see what was causing my symptoms. After and echo and a nuclear stress test I was told that I had severe MR. Two weeks later I was scheduled for a TEE procedure, which confirmed the severe MR. I am feeling very anxious and scared right now, but knowing I have a great surgeon eases me.
