About Me (In My Own Words)
Ten years ago, during a routine checkup, I found out I had an aortic aneurysm. Since then, I have been going for yearly checkups, just keeping an eye on it. This year, the news changed. It had grown to 5.2 cm and came with severe valve regurgitation. I spoke with several surgeons, and they all recommended the Bentall procedure. But I was not ready to live the rest of my life on anticoagulants. I am 57, very active, and I wanted to keep it that way.
Then I met Dr. Gopal at CCAD. He suggested the David procedure, which would let me keep my own valve. That was it, I knew I had found my doctor. On the morning of May 29, I was admitted to the hospital, and six hours later, it was done. Two days in the ICU, seven days in the cardiac ward, and an incredible team taking care of me every step of the way. I never once felt alone.
By June 16, I was already back to work remotely. On July 2, I took my first business trip to the UK. By July 14, I was training again, and on August 7, my doctor told me I could go back to my normal life.
Today, I feel great, as if nothing ever happened.
