Peggie, so sorry to hear about your friend. I know what fibrosis is (thickening and/or stiffening), in this case, of the heart. It is just one of the effects of heart disease. Why your friend was not diagnosed, I don\'t know, perhaps his sister needs to talk with his cardiologist. Maybe he knew, but just did not share that information, as it is not something that can be \"fixed\" surgically and without transplant, can only be treated.
Talk with your cardiologist, share your concerns with him/her and they should be able to discuss whether or not you are at risk.
Again, I am so sorry, I know what it is like to lose someone suddenly and especially if you are a \"heart patient\" yourself.

I was sorry to read your recent hospitalization. I am new to HVJ 3 X veteran of open heart with latest being mitral valve replacement Postop appt Dr stated that the severe pain in L shoulder, neck, ribs and numbness in L upper arm is because in my case nerve and muscle temporary damaged due to 3 X opening sternum extra spreading due to the amount of scar tissue
I hate having to cont with pain meds but if I don\'t I am pretty much in bed, so I really feel for your pain. I too love this HVJ and only wish it existed 13 yrs ago when I had by valve repaired. Would love to cont hearing from you hang in there, you have lots of friends out here and only we can truly understand. Surgeries for me age 37, 47 and now 59 so I know what it feels like when you are younger

I used the relaxation/guided imagery tapes available to me from the Cleveland Clinic prior to my surgery. This past March I had a bovine mitral valve and a tricuspid repair. I had to wait 2 1/2 months for my surgery and used the tapes for the month prior and it made a world of difference. They even let me go into the OR with my MP3 player, gave me so much peace. You haven\'t been dealt a fair hand but you\'ll get thru this you sound like a strong woman. Got to get better for that little one, right?
