Was hoping to get an update on your surgery which was today, right? New mechanical valve!! When you or someone is able, want to learn how well you did. Praying for an excellent surgery and recovery for you.
Too bad about your surgery delay but in the end we have to believe it is all for a good reason. We are so anxious to see it get done that we put a lot of store in the original date and after that it's all about it could have been done and over with by now. It's good you have chosen your replacement valve and are comfortable with your choice. Did you figure out how to move about and write in other people's journals yet? Look up at the blue lined headings and in particular "Search Journals" and you can either scroll down the listings you see or if you remember a name, type in any form of that name and those names closest will pop up. From there you can jump right to that journal. There is some really good reading to be had. Good luck.
Hey Patrick...I just wanted to say hello and remind you that I am here for you if you or Lisa need anything at all. You know I love you all and would do anything to be helpful. Patrick...It's hard to believe such a beautiful heart as yours could be anything but perfect. I know you are very strong and all will go just fine. I'm sending the luck of 1,000,000 four leaf clovers and that should be a sufficient amount. If you need more just let me know ok. I have plenty. LOL
Love You and I will see you soon, your sister
Well, it's just about time. I know your surgery is tomorrow, do you know yet what time and what kind of a valve you're getting? This time next week you could be back home recovering and getting on with your life. A prayer for you for a very successful surgery. Hope someone will keep us posted.
Congrats on finding this wonderful resource. I have learned so much here and am having to make the same decision on a valve. I did think about the On-X but think I have settled on the St Jude since it has such a long and proven track record.
Good luck on your surgery. Mine is May 21 at Duke University Medical Center.
Hi Patrick! Welcome to HVJ. I have the same diagnosis as you and will have my surgery on May 20th. I've found this site and all the people here to be very helpful and supportive. I'm sure I'd be far more nervous without them.
Welcome to HVJ. I hope reading Adam's book has brought you to this site, but if not, take the time to download it from the internet. It is a very valuable tool in helping you prepare for what is to come including recovery. All of us here can't say enough about what Adam has written. Now, with this interactive site, you'll also be able to get loads of support from those who have been there.
I had a mitral valve repair in Oct/09 and am doing well but most of us here, including myself, go through a tweaking process afterwards as our hearts adjust to the surgery. Being prepared is one of the most precious gifts you can give yourself right now. The mental aspect of heart surgery is an emotional one for you, your family and friends and you've now landed in a heap of support which is yours if you need it.
