Hi Nancy,
I see that you had a consult with Dr Girardi….did he perform the surgery for you? I am in the process of scheduling a consult with him within the next couple of weeks. I was wondering how your experience was with Dr Girardi and NY Presb Hospital. Hope you are doing well.
Thanks,

Hi Nancy,
And it only gets better. Truly amazing! I\'m 7 months post op and feel really good. No limits now at all. Back to normal self, good as new. They say that it takes a good year to completely be healed and feel good, I don\'t know how that\'s even possible, considering how good I feel now. I do tire quicker, so maybe that\'s part of the year part. Otherwise, all is good.
Keep up the good work, Diana

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for the note.
You are so right about speaking another language. Some friends expect you to bounce back to your normal self, it is hard to explain and sometimes tell them no. I sometimes still have teary moments but they seem to be settling down.
I am glad to hear you are doing well! Let us know how the echo looks. Did you get a chance to look at it? I was so amazed by mine. I actually am looking forward to my CT scan so I see more of what our amazing hearts are doing!

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your entry in my guestbook. Today marks one week since coming home from my surgery. Overall I am doing really well. I have been venturing out every day thanks to the warmer temperatures. Pain is manageable. I haven\'t gotten a heating pad like you suggested yet, but did have some friends give me light massages, which definitely help. Hope you had a good transition into the new year. I am glad I had the surgery before the new year. It\'s so nice starting the new year on the upwards path.
Wishing you continued smooth recovery and quick return to full activity. Thanks for communicating, it\'s reassuring and comforting to know that we have peers out there who know what we are going through and be able to communicate from a \"knowing place\"
All the best,
Chris K from New York

Dear nancy, thank you for leaving such kind words and good advice on my guestbook. I feel comforted that I am not alone. We may be spread out all over the states but one thing linking us closley together is what we are going through. Our common bond which is our situation we all need or have hjadvalve surgery. Also we are all strong people because we have to reach deep inside ourselves and find the strength some of us never knew we had not only for ourselves but our family, friends and loved ones... May god bless you and comfort you for being so kind and sharing kind words and comfort to me I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers may you have a Healthy happy peaceful new year. Hi Nancy,
It still amazes me and I\'m 6 months post op. Every day just gets better and better. It starts out slow at first, but then accelerates, I would say about 4 months post op.
I still get very cold, very unusual for me. I was always a very hot person. But, since surgery that has changed. As far as showering, for the first few weeks, I would shower when Dwight was home so that he could stand by while I showered. That does get better the more mobile you get. Do walk on the treadmill, that is an excellent way to build strength. Take it easy to start, remember, no matter how good you feel, you had open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. Give your body time to adjust and heal. I started rehab at 6 weeks.
I\'m enjoying doing for Christmas this year. Decorating and such. Its wonderful to be able to do and not have all the problems I had before surgery. Truly amazing!!!!!
Enjoy the holidays, and don\'t overdo. Listen to your body and when its had enough, rest.
Have a wonderful holiday season.

It gets better each week. You\'ll soon find you don\'t think about the scar. If this is the first major surgery you\'ve had that leaves a long scar, it\'ll take you a few months before you can ignore it, but believe me, you will. Like a mole or a birthmark, it eventually just becomes a part of you.
If your relatives come for Christmas, I hope you don\'t get too tired. Don\'t be afraid to say, \"Folks, would you excuse me please, it\'s time for my nap.\" I had to gently usher out well-meaning friends who wanted to keep me company all day, and it gets tiring having to relate, especially in early days.
Have a wonderful Christmas. You just got a brand new lease on life. By the time New Year\'s day is here, you\'ll be at the 6 week mark and feeling more normal.

Thank you for your kind words and support. It has been frustrating since I was fully prepared, family flights were booked, etc.Now its try to get back on the schedule and start over. But my docs are top flight, it was just a hospital oversight. We\'ll fix it next attempt. God Bless.

It\'s only a week for you, and I\'m glad you\'re doing so well. Each day does get better, as Fran said, but be careful not to overdo. As your energy returns you may start to feel giddy with the success of it all. It\'s easy to overdo on those days. Post as much as you can in the early days. It really helps. You\'ll know your recovery is doing very well as you record those events and then look over them as the weeks pass. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a smooth recovery. It\'s 10 weeks for me, and I feel totally normal.

I\'m assuming but not sure that you are now home. I\'m glad your experience has been so positive. Then mending is not so difficult from here on in - especially if you occupy yourself with friends and family and things to do at home. I\'m a week ahead of you and not jogging around the block or for that matter - walking too far but most days I get stronger and stronger. The lighting of the Hanukah candles symbolizes a miracle as does our shared surgeries.

Nancy,
How wonderful it is to be on the other side of surgery! I enjoyed your reflections on Hanukah. I was raised Catholic but have chosen to raise my son Jewish (in-laws Jewish). I am amazed by how beautiful some Jewish customs are and how they compliment my own experiences.
I cried (at the strangest times) the first 2-3 weeks after my surgery. I remember sitting in a wheel chair waiting for a chest x-ray so I could be discharged and tears were running down my face. This journey is emotional and physical.
It has been 7 1/2 weeks since my surgery and I am still amazed by my body, medicine, and the power of other people.
I wish you lots of peace and positive energy!
