I had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced Nov. 30th 2017. I had minimally invasive on the upper part of my right breast and heart lung machine attached through groin. It went so well. I have been watched since 35 when I had endocarditis. I am now 73 years young. I was dancing new years eve and now in cardio rehab. I wish u all the best

Hi Michael, I wish you the very best of luck and pray for a successful surgery and speedy recovery! I totally identify with your story. I too have been told I need surgery due to a bicuspid valve and aortic dilation......no symptoms. You, your surgeon, and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!

Best wishes Michael for your upcoming surgery. I just had the TAVR procedure (1/4/2018) to replace my prior replaced aortic valve from 2005 (open heart). Both surgeries were at Catholic Medical Center. You are in great hands. I was 49 when my first surgery was performed (now 62) and like you had little to no symptoms but was told it had to be done. Great facility in Manchester with probably the best nursing staff for recovery anywhere!

Hi Michael, I'm so glad you found this site! The worst part for me was the waiting. I was 42 when I had my AVR, and I've never looked back. Recovery was easier than I imagined. It was rough, and uncomfortable a few times, but take it one day at a time, and recognize that you WILL feel better soon, you won't be a heart patient the rest of your life. I found that having a goal to look forward to was very helpful. We planned a family reunion involving mountain climbing, horseback riding, and roller coasters about 4 months post-op. It was delightful! And I had a bit of fun planning it also.
I'm so glad I had it done, I thought I was asymptomatic for 8 years and really declined in the past 12 months before the surgery. But looking back, I can see that I was slowly declining in health for 10 years before surgery, even before I was diagnosed.
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns, most of us are more than willing to share our experiences with you. My best piece of advice? Get one of those U-shaped travel pillows so you can chill in your recliner and not have to waste your precious little energy holding your head up!
