Hi Debbie I had mitral valve replacement and maze procedure in November of 2017. I also have congestive heart failure and as a result I have a biventricular pacemaker. I too was on metoprolol but after experiencing a fib both of my cardiologists changed my medication from metoprolol to sotalol because they reported it provided the same support to the heart as metoprolol but in addition it helps tremendously in stopping arrhythmias such as a fib. I don’t know if it would help restoring sinus rhythm but you may want to ask your cardiologist. Take care.
Debbie Schimmel Thank you. I will ask at my next visit. I appreciate that!

Hello! I am very thankful to have found this site as well. With regards to cardiac rehab, I too walked , golfed, lifted weights prior to my mitral valve repair. It has been 7 months since my surgery and I still have not reached my level of fitness. Cardiac rehab was so important, not only for your mental and physical well being, but the monitoring is essential in the healing process. It provides peace of mind and the nursing care through out is so important. Plus you make great friends while exercising!!! I did not experience afib, just severe muscle cramping in my back and shoulders post op. Please keep us posted in your progress. God bless...
