About Me (In My Own Words)
My family history with heart problems helped me in getting to see a cardilogist early. I lost my father when he was 57, lost my oldest brother when he was early 40's, lost another brother within five years of my oldest, all due to heart problems. With this history and things that I was recognizing health wise I began to see the cardiologist. During my first few visits I was diagonised with aortic heart valve issues. The cardiologist said in the future you will need to have the valve replaced. At the time I understood but never thought it would be sooner then later. My last visit(August 09) Cardiologist said my heart has enlarged to the critcal stage and the need to replace the valve is now. When it finally sank into me that I have to have his done I started the process with the Catherization two weeks ago. That day I was told by the doctor that in addition to the valve replaced my aorta is enlarged and when the valve gets replaced I will need some grafting within the aorta.
I have a great family and support from them. My kids understand what I am about to go thru but as a father I am not a little scared but a lot. Friends who have had heart surgery have come to my side and tried to reassure me.
I have appointment with a surgeon tommorrow for a consultation which I have been patiently waiting for since the catherization. Over the course of the last two months I have come to terms with the fact that I need to have this done and it is better sooner then later. I'm at the point now that I want to get to recovery.
