About Me (In My Own Words)
My name is Amy, I'm 51 years old and live on the western slope of Colorado. I found out about my bicuspid valve about 18 years ago. My primary care doctor heard a heart murmur and I had an echocardiogram to follow up on it. She told me I would probably need a valve replacement in my 80s, so I never gave it another thought. I had another echo a year later and then nothing until last summer. I had changed doctors several times and nobody had mentioned anything about my bicuspid valve, nor was I having any symptoms. My dad had a TAVR last summer so I thought it might be good to have another echo to follow up. I was surprised to find out it showed moderate to severe aortic stenosis. I was referred to a cardiologist last fall and was even more surprised to find out I would need surgery in the next year to 2 years. I am currently researching my options and interviewing surgeons. I am hoping to get this taken care of this fall. Thank you for welcoming me into your community! This is such a great resource!
