Hi Christine! I had my aortic valve replaced at Cleveland Clinic 14 weeks ago at Cleveland Clinic. You have picked the best hospital EVER!!! I had VERY little pain after the surgery. I was up walking the halls on the second day. Released on the sixth day to go home. And I've been out going someplace every day since I left the hospital. Short trips out at first (I would need a nap in the afternoon). But 3 weeks out we drove 4 1/2 hours to visit friends for an over night trip. The recovery has been amazing. And I haven't felt this good in years.
Christine, your doctors and nurses are the BEST in their field. They will do everything to keep you comfortable. The nurses, technical personnel, nursing aids and cleaning staff were all very professional, encouraging and very fun. They perform your surgery hundreds of times per year. They will not fail you. Don't worry ....... your are in great hands.

Diane Zeigler So glad to hear positive things about the Cleveland Clinic. I too had my aortic valve replaced and two bypasses at CC on June 28. I had a very good experience there. I can't say that I recovered as quickly as you did, Gretchen. Maybe the bypasses made my recovery a little slower. However, I feel really good now but I still get tired quickly.

Phyllis Petersen All the staff at CC were very good to me and took care of my needs quickly and efficiently. I can't believe it's only been two weeks. I still have pain and tire easily, but am doing really well.
Diane Zeigler So happy that you are doing well, Phyllis.

I think Steven Dean, who is on this website had the same surgeon. As a matter of fact, Steven and I were at the Cleveland Clinic at the same time when we had our open heart surgeries. You are in great hands at the Cleveland Clinic, I can't say enough great things about that facility. I will be praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I am 11 weeks post op tomorrow and I am starting to feel normal again, it takes time and the first 3-6 weeks were tough for me, at least looking back at it now, but you will do great and I look forward to seeing your updates post op!!

Praying for you Christine! I too was born with a bicuspid aortic valve & dx'd 3 yrs ago. My routine echo was last Sept. The tech "happened to" scan my heart at the very tip top of the aorta and found a 5cm aneurysm sitting there. Very unusual. So glad that guy saved my life when he discovered it. I had a bovine tri-cuspid valve replace my old valve. The aneurysm was taken out in a 4" long section from my ascending aorta and replaced with a mesh aorta. Amazing what a combination of prayer and super competent thorasic surgeon and staff can do to extend your life. The first month is no party. Difficult to sleep. But . . . once you get into your cardiac rehab you are home free! All the best to you, Christine! Linda
