Boy, where do I start? I found out about my heart valve on Jan. 11th MLK day. I go in for an MRA on Jan 27, and see the surgeon on Feb 2. Lots of questions to ask him, like how long will the recovery take? Is there any benefit to a tissue valve over a mechanical valve other than the clotting problem? How are you going to approach the heart? Break my ribs, through the belly button or how? How soon can I climb stairs? How long will I be in hospital? Will I need care when I get out? That's just a few to start with. Feb. 8 2010 Saw the surgeon on the second. I like him. He was very informative answered most of my questions. I have to go back in for more pictures on the 11th. They want to look at more of the arteries before they do the surgery. The doctor said he was going to definitly replace part of the aorta but that he may be able to repair the heart valve. If he has to replace it he will use a tissue valve. More to come.
