My husband is having a TAVR but first has had test, carotid sonogram, TEE, catscan and the last was a catherization which they put in 2 stents in the back of his heart. Reading the web I see that if you have stents with the new drug they wait for 6 months to do the surgery. On January 3 we have to go to a 4 hour meeting with the TAVR team. I am so anxious that I am so afraid that they will reject him. He is 85 and his mean deviant in March was 33 and Sept was 42. His stenosis is getting worse and I am wondering as anyone still had their TAVR done even though there were stents put in right before the surgery? The cardiologist said that there is many blockages but they are moderate and he is leaving them alone and all of his valves are narrow. I am just beside myself with worry over this.

Anna Jones Hi Rhoda. I can't answer your questions. I am the caretaker for my husband and I've learned that I need to be present whenever the doctors see him. I write everything the doctors says in a notebook and I refer back to it often. I read up on what they say and then I make an appointment to see my husband's doctor to ask questions. They have all gotten used to me doing this and it saves me from worrying.
I would suggest that you call your husband's cardiologist/interventionist and ask him the questions you are asking here. Let him know you are fearful and that you need explanations on a level that you can comprehend.
Best wishes to you and your husband. Being a caretaker is difficult. Make sure you are caring for yourself too.

Rhoda Pelliccia Than you so much Anna for your help. We keep a pad and pencil and write down any questions we have for the four hour meeting with the valve clinic on Jan 3. We are seeing his surgeon cardiologist on Wednesday. He is the one who put the stents in and said it would not interfere with the TAVR but I am going to mention what I read.
