I am 6 months post op mitral valve repair and I have a defibalator due to sudden cardiac arrest I suffered. I am back at gym past three months. I noticed last week I been having a fast heartbeat during excersize and when I slow down it stays at a range of 125 Bpm. It takes about 2 minutes to come back down and I hear it flutter threw my chest , only happens once in a while not all the time. My cardiologist thinks it's just my body deconditioning from the surgery. No pain in chest or shortness of breath , just curious if anyone else had this
I did have sinus tachycardia post mitral valve repair and did a lot of searching for a reason. There were no medical issues. The condition did resolve for me in 6-9 months and I am doing great 21 months post op. Several mitral repair patients on the site have noted this elevated heart rate after surgery. Keep your cardiologist informed, but it may resolve on it's own. The healing process is a lot longer than we realize when we feel so much better than before surgery.

My surgeon said the heart muscle is irritated post op and takes a few months to settle down. But everyone has different recommendations for maximum heart rate during exercise. Good luck.
