Good evening everyone. I hope everyone is feeling healthy and happy out there. Well my husband Mark had his aortic valve replacement just about a week ago. He spent four nights in the hospital and I think he’s doing quite well. He had one short bout of AFib which corrected itself. He’s on amiodarone for a couple of weeks until he sees his surgeon. The side effects of that drug scare me, but it’s to help with his heart rate. One question I have though even though he’s on that and he’s on a beta blocker, today his heart rate has been a bit higher than normal. When he first got out of the hospital, his heart rate was between 60 and 70 bpm. Today it’s been about 73 bpm. I’m wondering if that’s something we should be concerned about.?
Joann Rinozzi just call your Dr or send an e mail. then you will feel confident.

Ana Kelton-Brand Hi Paula, seems like your husband is doing quite well. It's common for heart rate to be higher than usual after heart surgery, at least that was the case with me. But it sounds like your husband's heart rate is within normal limits and actually quite good. My heart rate was in the high 80's and 90's for weeks post-valve surgery, and it fluctuated quite a bit. I actually had tachycardic Afib for several days post-discharge where my heart rate went up to 170bpm. It was pretty scary, but I am now 6 months post-surgery and doing very well. I was on Amiodarone for two months because my Afib was so severe, but I have not had any repeat episodes. So it seems to me that your husband is doing great. The difference between 60-70bpm and 73 bpm is negligible. But double check with his surgeon if you are concerned. I wish him a speedy and smooth recovery.

Susan Dunne My heart rate was higher after surgery 90's. Now at 18 weeks it's coming down. On the other hand they couldn't keep my BP up. It stayed in and very low,@00's. Now about 120/58 usually. It takes time for the body to readjust. Believe!

Suelynn Hanegraaf Some days, my pulse rate is on the high side at resting (I’m 10 weeks post-SAVR) but low blood pressure. Good advice to run this by your cardiologist. Currently doing a 30-day event monitor to make sure all is good and that I don’t have to go back on a-fib meds.
