My husband had an aortic valve replacement 3 years ago on 3/14/12. He has recovered nicely. I found out this past week that I need either a mitral valve replacement or repair so will be doing more testing in the next few weeks.. this has been a shock as we had no idea there was a heart problem. We are oping for a repair instead of a replacement.

Jim O'Brien Hi Linda, I'm glad to hear that your husband has recovered well. I had Mitral Valve Repair on Nov. 24, 2014 so I'm still recovering. The heart surgery recovery is getting there, but for me it's been numerous other issues to deal with not related to the surgery.
If you haven't already done so, research Mitral Valve Surgery so you have a better understanding of what to expect and what might be the best option for YOU. This website is an excellent place to start as is Adam's very helpful book. I found that the more I understood my surgery I felt a bit less worried and stressed. Nancy D Hi Linda...sure glad your husband is doing well. It is a shock to find out you need heart surgery. I am 6 months post Mitral valve replacement (mine was found to be too damaged to repair at the time of surgery) and I am doing so very well. This site has great information that will help you make decisions that are right for your journey. And a group of people all here ready and willing to answer your questions, and help you through. Remember though, not one of our experiences are the same and yours will be uniquely yours You will know what feels right for you, as you go through the testing and meeting the new doctors you would never imagine you would need.
