On October 5, 2017 I underwent open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve and repair a hole in my heart which I didn’t know about. Apparently I was born with both BAV and a hole in my heart and was unaware of any of this for 61 years until I contracted multiple virus which included a bacterial infection and developed sepsis. To make a long story short In October of that year after the infectious disease doctors cleared me for surgery I had open heart surgery and received a bovine aortic valve and the hole was closed.
I am not on any medications except a low dose aspirin and a Crestor. The problem I have developed over the past year is excessive sweating where I feel like I’m going to combust. I can be doing nothing and it happens and it’s not menopause. Been there did that thank goodness.
I am wondering if anyone else is going through the same kind of issue and if so do they know why.
Marie Myers Have you had a full medical workup to find the cause of the sweating? Hoping you get an answer soon!

Ruth Twyman I had AVR in 2015 and I have the same issue. I have had the gamut of testing and nothing has been found to explain this. I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and neuropathy since my surgery. The rheumatologist said these are surgery induced conditions for me. I am anxious to hear what your cardiologist thinks about your issue. Please keep up posted.

Hi Joyce, sorry to hear about your excessive sweating. I know how uncomfortable it can be. I am only on Labetalol twice a day, and one aspirin a day. I also take a Statin and thyroid medication. I started having night sweats two months after OHS, sometimes is light and occasionally can be heavy, I have an appointment with the Cardiologist on April 3rd and hope he can tell me why this is happening now and find some relief. I started having some lightheadedness and very slight dizziness, at least a couple of times a day. My PCP wants me to come and see him, but after to failed appointments with him, the first one for two hours answering questions to his nurse and clerk they said I couldn’t see him and to make another appointment, I did and just before I got there for the second appointment he called his office and canceled without an explanation. So I just won’t go back to him and wait for the Cardiologist. Will post about this later. Hope you find some relief

Robert Osmachenko Hi Joyce. I had my aortic valve replacement in 2014 with a similar valve. I experienced heat and sweating during the deep tissue healing that occurred about 6 weeks after surgery. Once I got the right meds to work on my pain the sweating/heat issues subsided. I believe the heat is a sign of inflammation caused by an allergy or an infection. In my case it was the ongoing insidious pain from the surgery. For what it’s worth, I hope it helps you.

Joyce Dietz I don’t get sweating at night as a rule it seems to happen even when I’m not over exerting myself. I don’t know if this is going to be part of my new normal or not but It’s not something I expected. The sternum wires still bug me occasionally but I’ve learned to live with that so I may have to get use to this too. If my doctors appointment doesn’t get cancelled I’m hoping he can shed some light on this.
