Note there is a new way of accessing the heart for surgery without a large central chest cut. Something called Transcervical robotic surgery. Reportedly much less pain and quicker recovery. Seems to be done at the Cleveland Clinic. Is this available elsewhere?

J Alexander Lassally Indeed a new frontier. But there is no long term data on the procedure -- and the time on pump would likely be super high as surgeon takes their time to get in there (not sure if it is on or off pump though, key issue)... Probably in 5-10 years this could be an option but for now guinea pig stage.. Not sure if anyone else is dong it yet.

john mckenna Latest I have read from Dr Koprivanac at the Cleveland Clinic is that time on pump is just the same as traditional entry site, but with little pain or scar as the scar is hidden in natural fold in neck line. The procedure once inside the chest is the same so no long term data needed. It is just a different way of entering the chest and allowing robotic access as I see it. A very repeatable procedure today with repeatable results. May be the way forward.
