All after my heart valve replacement surgery I too experienced these fits of anger & the need for distant from people. Thank God as a combat veteran I have experienced these emotional problems. It is called PTSD & is what most are describing here. The body & mind have just experienced the same trauma as combat. The anger is a natural response to the inability to control your life or environment. The need for distant & isolation is the response of "no one knows or cares what I am going thru" . It is like a three year olds temper tamtream.
Good news is if you request help to treat it as PTSD the outcome & results will astonish you. Both the spouse & patients need help to overcome this situation. Most physicians do not understand or have the time to guide you to complete body & mind recovery.
I hope this has helped guide you to a solution as the treatment for PTSD has resolved the anger & isolation problems to include the mood swings.

Jim Archer Jaime, the hospital I used had an OHS manual of sorts. In it they do talk about post surgery depression. I agree with you that those emotions are PTSD, after all, OHS involves a very invasive procedure. It takes the body and soul a bit to recover. In my case, I focused on the recovery for the first few months, measuring my progress, and trying to do a bit more each day.
