I’m scheduled to undergo a series of tests on May 19th at Baylor in downtown Dallas. The tests will include a CT scan of my aorta, a sonogram of my carotid arteries and some pulmonary tests.
The purpose of these is to determine which type of valve I’m a good candidate for - the TAVR valve (which is implanted via a catheter through a vein in my leg) or the surgical bio-mechanical valve (a tissue valve that requires surgery to cut out the old valve and sew in the new one). I am supposed to meet with the valve board that afternoon to get that answer - as well as begin the process of scheduling the procedure.
I'm hopeful that I'm a good candidate for the TAVR (trans-catheter aortic valve replacement) option because it is way less invasive and recovery time is much easier/shorter.
