Three weeks ago I had successful mitral valve repair surgery to correct regurgitation in that valve. Before the operation, my tricuspid valve was working normally. After surgery, I have mild to medium regurgitation in my tricuspid valve. Is this something that may go away after some time or is it likely to require further surgery?

Sophia Ridley Hi David, welcome! I had a mitral valve repair due to regurgitation. The regurgitation hasn't altered on the other valves, I think best to ask your surgeon / cardiologist.

Wanda Mroz I had mitral valve repair also for regurgitation. But I showed a trivial leak in my tricuspid valve before surgery, so that was also repaired during the Mitral surgery... didn't need to be but was. I've never heard of something leaking after surgery. I'd ask about it as well.

David Riley Thanks. I think my surgeon would have repaired my tricuspid valve had it been leaking at all prior to surgery. It was only after surgery that the moderate regurgitation was detected via TEE. My surgeon says to "give it 6 months" before becoming overly concerned. He said things may "settle down" once my recovery from MV surgery is further along.
