Hello I have just found out that I have severe bicuspid aortic stenosis. I have no symptoms two weeks ago when I visited my Cardio spealist. Now I sometimes feel pressure on my chest.
I am 60 and fit. My Spealist wants to review me is 6 months time, does this sound standard ?
If I have a TAVI, will I then be on blood thinners from then on In ? My Cardio specialist said they they say the value last 15 years but realistically it will last 10, is this correct ?
I understand each TAVI that needs replacing goes inside the old one, if this is the case, how many times can this be done ?
Thank you, I have more questions but those are my main ones.

Rose Madura David, to me severe is severe and I'm not sure I understand the reason for waiting. You might want a 2nd opinion. Regarding TAVR, my aunt has one that lasted about 8 years. She has a second one but unfortunately succumbed to cancer just last week. So not sure how long the 2nd one would have lasted, she only has it a couple months. Definitely get a second opinion... Godspeed.

Marie Myers I believe you can have one TAVR placed into an old TAVR. So you could possibly get 20 + years through TAVR. If you are in good shape, my guess is that the docs may recommend open heart surgery to replace the stenotic valve. But the decision is ultimately yours to make. Usually you are not on blood thinners after TAVR unless there is something else like atrial fibrillation going on. A 6 month review is not unusual, but like Rose said, a second opinion from a totally diffferent doctor/practice is not a bad idea.

Roselyn Kubek Ditto to both Rose and Marie. I was 62, in great health other than bi-cuspid aortic valve stenosis (no real symptoms). I opted for SAVR because my valve was pretty small and SAVR allowed the surgeon to widen and put in a valve that’s as a little larger so Next time TAVI. Been 2 years. So far all is well. As I understand it blood thinners are more about type of valve or, otherwise, a fib.
