Hello, my almost 59 year old husband is scheduled for OHS to incude: Aortic Valve replacement, replacement of Ascending Aorta, Encompass Maze (ablasion) for afib, and a bit more.
I am seeking tips and guidelines for supporting him and his recovery process.
His surgery was scheduled for 6/27/22, but he became ill with a UTI and then Sepsis from it on 6/23/22. After a few days in the ICU and tons of prayers, he is home recovering. His OHS is now rescheduled for the morning of 7/11/22.
Thank you!

Rose Madura Wow! What an adventure you guys have been on! I'm sure you'll be a wonderful supporter for your husband. They told my husband not to do too much for me. But probably you could help by reminding him to do his spirometer, frequent walks, high protein meals. My husband had to help me bathe using shower chair for a couple days. It was a real comfort having him with me at the hospital. Let us know if you have any specific questions. Godspeed!

Thomas Brusstar Your first job is to understand that he will be scared and impatient and irritable at times. Sometimes he might want to talk about the details of what’s going on, sometimes he will just want you to hold his hand and not get too clinical. Just ask him what he needs and forgive him in advance for being cranky. Make sure his favorite comfort food is available, and make the healthy stuff tasty, like kefir shakes with lots of fresh fruit. He’s lucky to have you there to help.
