My daughter, age 30 has had a Co-arc Aorta repair when she was 3 weeks old and at 1 1/2 years old a VSD repair. She was diagnosed with a "paracute" mitral valve all through her childhood years. About 2 years ago she started getting a few A Fib scares and had 2 cardio versions and then was put on Metprolol and baby aspirin. She has been fine for almost 2 years, then a few weeks ago she went back into A fib and had to be cardio converted then. Her gradient level was at 1.1 prior to this and when she had the TEE prior to the cardio version it was measured at 2.1 which is really strange. The Doctors have said that she has "severe mitral valve stenosis" and that she should have a full valve replacement. The Doctor that did the TEE suggests that they try to do a balloon valvotomy. Another Doctor says that's not the case and she needs a full valve replacement. The weird thing is that she has no other symptoms aside from occasional A Fib. Is there any Doctor out there in Texas (she lives in Austin) that has done Mitral Valve Repair for Mitral Valve Stenosis? Is there any Doctor anywhere in Northern California that has?
