A ten out of ten. Not perfect but close. I would go back tomorrow Dr Sabik and his team performed a posterior leaflet repair on my mitral valve and I was walking 1.25 miles one week after surgery and 2.5 miles on day eight. One to two Tylenol per day . Only pain is when I rarely cough or as nerve inervation returns to surgical site. Back to work (light) on day 7 ,saw six pts on day eight, and half load on day ten. THANK God and Cleveland Clinic!.
It is day nine today and need to go walk my second hilly 1.25 mile walk!

April27. Another echo and first cath. Shortness breath continues and is about only real symptom..echo shows both leaflets of mitral valve flapping in the wind.ejection rate still 60 %,ventricle and atrium enlarged so time to undergo the knife. Local surgeon suggesting mechanical valve. I have sent records to Cleveland to see what they think my options are. I would like a repair but may have waited too long... My thinking is hindsight tells me I should have proceeded with surgery when I was mod to severe regurg but asymptomatic ..TAKE NOTE. Leaflets can change almost overnight limiting your options. Oh well it makes it an adventure

Sitting here on a Saturday morning at 3:00 am taking slow deep breaths surprised how quickly shortness of breath symptoms can come on . Played a hard hour and half of pickleball yesterday with no ill effects and am now 16 hours later focusing on taking a deep breath. Can't get an echo until next Wednesday, Cleveland clinic chat line does not resume until Monday morning, and who knows who will be your doc if you go to emergency on weekend in the middle of the night . Oh well HAPPY EASTER. There is peace in in knowing Him!

Age: 56
Diagnosis: Mod to severe mitral regurgitation
Treatment option 1 presented: Have repair or replacement surgery immediately
Treatment option 2 presented by second opinion: Follow up with echo every 6 months for a year and then yearly
I am choosing the second option. It has been one year since first diagnosed,am symptom free, extremely active and showing no cardiac change on echos.I am having an echo next month and am anxious for results. So far glad I waited.
