Last week, I celebrated the first anniversary of my heart surgery -- mitral valve repair, maze procedure for A Fib and closing the left atrial appendage. Dr. Patrick McCarthy was my surgeon at Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute Northwestern Medicine, Chicago. Dr. McCarthy and his staff are terrific. I am blessed to have recovered as he said I would. I followed the post-surgery regime to the letter. Now, the only medication I take is an 81 mg aspirin. Life is a joy and I am so thankful I had access to Dr. McCarthy's expertise.
