My husband had an aortic valve replaced and 1 bypass 10 days ago. He is home and seems to be improving daily. His biggest problem seems to be stomach bloat, some swelling in his foot area and constipation. He is using gas relief pills and some laxatives, drinking quite a lot of water and has some prescriptions. Any suggestions or is this fairly normal after a 10 day time.

My cardiac surgeon is allowing me to take magnesium and GasX the week prior and after surgery to help relieve my IBS symptoms (and to try to keep my belly happy). I also find that avoiding carbs for awhile (white or jasmine rice is ok) helps and to drink lots of fluids.
