At my yearly echo appointment on Dec 12, 2016 my cardiologist is concerned that the mitral valve moderate regurgitation is getting worse. He wanted to do a TEE the next day but I had no one available to drive me home after it. I finally scheduled it & had it done last Monday, Feb 6. (my twin sister drove me home) We noticed on the paperwork before the procedure that the DX listed was Rheumatic Mitral Regurgitation - not mentioned before. My Dr said it's borderline now & we will follow-up again in 3 months. Starting to read up on options available from Drs, to hospitals, to procedures, to what will my insurance cover. Also found out last Monday that my twin sister just went in to see why she's been having lower leg swelling. Her Dr heard a murmur & sent her for an echo. Hers showed a right dystolic dysfunction, mild tricuspid valve regurgitation, an ASD, & pulmonary hypertension. Her family Dr didn't even want to send her to a cardiologist. Her follow-up is next Wed. Was her heart damage due to Rheumatic fever too? Hmmm

Kathy Blank I found wide differences in recommendations from the 2 cardiologists and 3 cardiovascular surgeons I visited. The consults saved me from getting unnecessary procedures and made my decision much easier for me and my family! Best of luck for you and your sister!!!

Ann Haugh Thank you. If there's one thing I've learned working in a medical facility, it's you have to be your own advocate. I will definitely get at least 2 opinions before deciding anything.
